Layer´s of the Earth

The Earth is made up of four main layers, each with different characteristics:

 1. Crust

  • The outermost layer where we live
  • Very thin compared to other layers (about 5–70 km)
  • Made of solid rock
  • Includes continents and ocean floors

 2. Mantle

  • The thickest layer (about 2,900 km)
  • Made of semi-solid rock (like hot, slow-moving material)
  • Heat from this layer causes movement of tectonic plates

 3. Outer Core

  • Made of liquid iron and nickel
  • Extremely hot (about 4,000–5,000°C)
  • Responsible for creating Earth’s magnetic field

4. Inner Core

  • The center of the Earth
  • Made of solid iron and nickel
  • Even hotter than the outer core (up to 6,000°C)

 Easy way to remember:

Crust → Mantle → Outer Core → Inner Core
